European High Tech Capital: Eindhoven
At Viisi, we believe you can offer the best mortgage advice if you know the area where the home is being purchased. That is why we have local offices with mortgage advisors who know the city. Relevant, because Eindhoven has changed and developed a great deal over the years. From a problem child during the crisis years of the 90’s to the European High Tech Capital of today. Eindhoven is the largest – and according to many, the most attractive – city in the southern Netherlands.
Eindhoven has always been an industrial city with well-known names such as Philips and DAF as employers. While the former has indeed moved its head office to Amsterdam, the company’s roots are in Eindhoven. Philips founded PSV and was the football club’s primary sponsor until 2016. Moreover, all that industry does not mean Eindhoven is grey and bleak: there are countless (recreational) parks across the city where you can relax. The city’s green infrastructure is excellent.
One of Eindhoven’s attractions is Strijp-S; a former industrial estate which emerged as a breeding ground for the creative sector in 2000. Former Philips factories were converted into studios and workshops for design and tech companies. In addition, Strijp-S is the cultural nerve centre of Eindhoven with countless catering outlets and exhibitions. It has been possible to live there permanently since 2012.
Thanks to the presence of a technical university, Eindhoven is also a typical student city with a lively and international student scene. Start-ups are given every opportunity to grow and there are various cultural events every week, so there is never a dull moment. One of the highlights is Dutch Design Week, which offers a platform to showcase the work of talented design students every year.
