Update May 2022

Viisi’s in-house economist Michiel Goris answers questions about the state of the (global) economy, looking specifically at the position of people who want to buy a home. In this update:

  • What effect does the still-raging war in Ukraine have on the (global) economy?
  • Is the ECB going to raise the interest rate?
  • How is the mortgage interest developing?
  • Will housing become more affordable in the short term now that prices have fallen (slightly)?

Michiel’s advice for people who are looking to buy a home: “Never rush to buy a home. You buy a house for at least 10 years because then you have little risk of your house being worth less than your mortgage. I expect that housing prices will not rise as fast as in the past 2 – 3 years, so take your time to find a home that really suits you.”
